On Earth, in the security office of the Secret Sock Corporation, stacks of surveillance monitors blanketed the curved wall. A large desk anchored the middle of the room, flanked by two smaller desks and each were manned by guards. The large desk had the main controls, overriding the others.

Vance adjusted his red tie and nodded to Ivan, who handed a mini disc to the guard. “Play it,” said Ivan.

The guard inserted the mini disc and entered commands on the console. A visual appeared on the large middle screen and then spread throughout all the monitors as one screen. Besides a faint red light from the motion sensor, it was dark.

“Bring him in,” said Vance.

A guard opened the doors. Biker girl bunched her face together in a scowl as she walked in with the white case. Mooch dragged the train conductor.

She opened the case and handed the light blaster to Vance.

The conductor flailed in vain as Mooch, the brute, held him up with one arm. “How would I know?” the conductor pleaded. “I’m not security. Please.”

Vance pulled the lever on the blaster, initiating a whirling sound. “Cue it to the alarm.” He smoothed his mustache with his free hand.

The guard fast-forwarded the video. It sped through the train door opening, the light going on, Brady taking photos, Bill jumping in the bin, and–He paused it. On-screen was Bill coming out of the bin, pantomiming “guns blazing” with finger pistols, and Brady looking at the countdown on the wall.

“Did you see an alert in your cab?” asked Vance.

The conductor quit moving and held on to the brute’s arm. “The video goes straight to the security boxcar. Not mine.”

“Why isn’t it set up in yours?” asked Vance.

“I’ll do it right away,” said the conductor, begging.

Vance turned back to the monitor wall. “Get in close on the skinnier one.” The guard zoomed in on the face. Vance sighed. “Brady Watts. Mystery Solver. Just what we needed.” Stone-faced, Vance pulled the trigger. Mooch turned away as lights spun in the chamber and shot into the conductor’s eyes.

The conductor stared into the colored abyss. When the light faded, he mumbled incoherent gibberish, then slunk over, the shirt holding him up at the neck.

“Get rid of him,” said Vance. Mooch hauled him away, and Vance handed Ivan the light blaster.

Ivan slowly walked around, staring at the guards. He held up the light blaster. Their eyes locked onto it, and they squirmed in their seats. He pointed the blaster at them. They flinched. He pointed it away from them, then back at them. They flinched again. He slowly pointed it at them. They flinched slowly. He pointed it at them quickly. They flinched quickly. He pretended like he was going to point it but didn’t. They flinched. He smiled.

“Warn the authorities back home,” said Vance. The guards nodded in unison.
